Alibaba's HappyHorse 1.0 is the one I would open to give an existing recording a new look, or to get native 4:5 and 5:4 frames for a feed. ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 is the better call when the clip needs sound right away, or when you want 4K, cheap 480p drafts, or audio and video references. Per second at 720p they cost nearly the same, while at 1080p HappyHorse is the clear bargain.
When to pick HappyHorse 1.0
- You shot something on a phone and want it to look animated or painted.
- A 4:5 reel should come out ready for the feed, with no reframing later.
- You need 1080p and plan to lay the soundtrack in the edit anyway.
- A character should be built from a handful of reference pictures.
When to pick Seedance 2.0
- The clip should already have speech, effects or music when it lands.
- You want a 4K master or a quick 480p test.
- An ad must follow the motion of a reference clip or the timing of a voice track.
- The shot goes from a set first frame to a set last frame.
Differences you will notice
- Restyle mode. HappyHorse 1.0 can repaint a source video of 3-60 s (only the first 15 s are processed) with up to 5 style images. Seedance 2.0 has no edit mode; a reference clip steers a brand new shot instead.
- Sound. Seedance 2.0 adds speech, effects and music by default. For HappyHorse the catalog mentions audio only in edit mode, not when generating from text or images.
- Cost. HappyHorse is from $0.322 per second at 1080P, Seedance 2.0 from $0.157 per second at 720p. At 720p Seedance is only about 5% dearer per second; at 1080p it is roughly 1.5 times the HappyHorse rate. In HappyHorse edit mode you pay for source seconds plus output (capped at 15 s), so a 10-second source bills as 20 s. In Seedance, clips in
video_urlsadd their own seconds. - Resolution and length. HappyHorse: 720P and 1080P, 3-15 s. Seedance 2.0: 480p, 720p, 1080p and 4K, 4-15 s.
- References and frames. HappyHorse takes 1-9 images, or one photo as the opening frame. Seedance takes up to 9 images, 3 clips and 3 audio files, plus a first and last frame. Both share 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3 and 3:4; only HappyHorse adds 4:5 and 5:4, and only Seedance adds 21:9 and
adaptive.
How to decide
Start from your material. Existing footage to restyle, or a feed format: HappyHorse. A new shot that should be finished with audio, or anything at 4K: Seedance. I have not run HappyHorse through my own tests yet. Seedance 2.0 delivered the best camera push-in on the coffee prompt in my video ranking on the Polish blog, at 8.5/10. Alibaba has since released HappyHorse 1.1, and the Seedance line-up is explained in Seedance 2.0 vs 2.5. Every rate is on the pricing page.
Questions
What does a 15-second restyle cost in HappyHorse?
The bill covers 15 seconds of source and 15 seconds of output, so 30 seconds at your chosen resolution. Studio shows the total on the Generate button.
Can HappyHorse 1.0 render 4K?
No. It stops at 1080P. In this pair 4K exists only in Seedance 2.0.
If the job fails, do I pay for the probed source?
No. A failed generation costs nothing, and the held amount returns to your balance.
