Fast is the lower-cost version of ByteDance's Seedance 2.0, and it accepts everything the full model does, from prompts and photos to frame pairs, reference video and audio. The one real limit is resolution, since Fast tops out at 720p. If your reel lives at 720p, Fast gives you everything for roughly 27% less. For 1080p or 4K, you need the full model.

When to pick Seedance 2.0

  • YouTube ads at 1080p or 4K, or footage you plan to reframe.
  • The final render once a prompt has proved itself in Fast.
  • Music video footage destined for a large screen.
  • Image-to-video where the frame should follow the photo's ratio, via the adaptive default.

When to pick Seedance 2.0 Fast

  • Vertical social posts for TikTok or Instagram, which rarely need more than 720p.
  • 480p drafts before paying for more resolution.
  • A product series built on one shared set of references.
  • Vlog B-roll and backgrounds.

Differences you will notice

  • Price. At equal resolution Seedance 2.0 Fast is about 26-27% cheaper than Seedance 2.0. Rates at 720p: from $0.157 per second and from $0.124 per second. At 1080p the full model runs about 3.4x the Fast 720p rate, and 4K roughly doubles 1080p.
  • Resolution. Full model: 480p, 720p, 1080p, 4K. Fast: 480p and 720p.
  • Default framing. The full model starts from adaptive, Fast from 16:9. Shooting vertical in Fast? Pass aspect_ratio: "9:16".
  • Speed. Fast was not clearly quicker in my runs: 106-164 s against 143-146 s. So read "Fast" as a price tier, not a promise.
  • Shared. 4-15 s, duration: -1, sound on by default, references (9 images, 3 clips, 3 audio files), 7 ratios including 21:9, 20,000-character prompts. Clip seconds in video_urls are billed; images and audio are not.

How to decide

Pick by output size. Up to 720p: Fast. Above 720p: the full model, or Seedance 2.0 Eco for 1080p and 4K. A common pattern is to iterate in Fast and switch for the final render. With duration: -1 funds are held for 15 s and settled at the length you get. All tiers on /pricing; the next generation is covered in Seedance 2.0 vs 2.5.

Questions

How did the two score on the same prompt?

On my coffee-pour prompt Fast got 8.0/10 in the first ranking, thanks to a clean push toward the cup, though it added a rainbow flare and music nobody asked for. The full model got 8.5/10, the best result of any model in the second ranking.

Will my framing change when I move a prompt from Fast to the full model?

It can, because the default ratios differ. Set aspect_ratio explicitly in both and the shot stays consistent.

Can I switch the sound off in Fast?

Yes, with generate_audio: false. The price stays the same.
