Seedance 2.0 charges by the second and is flexible: anything from 4 to 15 seconds, any resolution from 480p up to 4K, and references of every kind. Veo 3.1 (Quality) hands back a fixed 8-second clip for one price at 720p, 1080p or 4K. For 8 seconds at 720p the bills are close; at 1080p Veo wins by roughly 2.7x, and at 4K by about 3.6x. So I take short or reference-heavy shots to Seedance and sharp shots that fit into 8 seconds to Veo.

When to pick Seedance 2.0

  • Short 4-6 s moments that should not be billed as eight.
  • A character built from photo, clip and voice references, including real people with consent.
  • A square 1:1 or wide 21:9 frame.
  • Low-cost 480p tests while the look is still open.

When to pick Veo 3.1

  • Sharp 1080p or 4K footage that fits into 8 seconds.
  • Trailers and spots cut from uniform 8-second blocks.
  • Moving through several stills given as frames.
  • A fixed per-clip price that is the same at 720p and 1080p.

Differences you will notice

  • Price. Seedance 2.0 costs from $0.157 per second at 720p, Veo 3.1 (Quality) from $2.53 per video at 720p and 1080p. For an 8-second Seedance shot you pay half of a Veo clip at 480p, around 7% above it at 720p, roughly 2.7x at 1080p and roughly 3.6x Veo's 4K clip at 4K.
  • Length. Seedance makes 4-15 s or picks the length with duration: -1. Veo always returns 8 s here. At 720p, 5 s of Seedance comes to roughly 2/3 of one Veo clip and 10 s to roughly 1.3x.
  • Sound. Seedance includes speech, effects and music unless you disable them, at no price change. Veo offers no audio toggle and no audio fee; the vendor says it makes sound with the picture, so listen to one clip before a batch.
  • Inputs. Seedance: start and end frames, or references (9 images, 3 clips, 3 audio files), with clip seconds billed. Veo: 1-3 images as frames in image_urls.
  • Formats and prompt. Seven ratios in Seedance (1:1, 21:9 and adaptive among them), two in Veo (16:9 and 9:16). Prompts reach 20,000 characters in Seedance and 4,000 in Veo.

How to decide

  • Shot is exactly 8 s, or you need 1080p/4K: Veo 3.1.
  • Shot is shorter or longer, square, or driven by references: Seedance 2.0.

On September 28 Veo 3.1 earned 8.0/10 from me, with 8.0 both for the coffee scene and for Polish dialogue. That round included only the Fast member of the Seedance 2.0 family, so I leave the scores apart. Sample Veo bills are worked out in the Veo 3.1 pricing guide; see also my 2026 video generator roundup and Veo 3.1 vs Seedance 2.5. Try different lengths in the cost calculator.

Questions

How do I get a 12-second shot?

Generate it in Seedance 2.0 in one pass, or join two Veo clips and trim the extra 4 seconds in your editor. Compare both totals before you commit.

Is Veo 3.1 at 720p cheaper than at 1080p?

No, both cost the same per clip, so there is little reason to choose 720p in Veo.

Does a failed Seedance or Veo run cost anything?

No. A failed generation costs $0 and the held funds go back to your balance.
