Video Models Beyond Runway: Six Options on One Pay-per-Clip API

Looking for a Runway alternative with an API? Kling 3.0, Seedance 2.5, Veo 3.1, MiniMax H3, Wan 3.0 and Gemini Omni on one key, billed per clip or second.

Runway sells a monthly credit allowance. If you would rather pay for each clip you actually make, the practical route is to use video models from other labs directly: Kling 3.0 (from $0.0963 per second), Seedance 2.5 (from $0.261 per second), Veo 3.1 (Quality), MiniMax H3, Wan 3.0 and Gemini Omni. In Kadraris all six sit in the same browser Studio and behind the same API key, and they draw on one prepaid balance that does not expire.

This guide covers which model to pick for which shot, how Runway's tools translate, my own two-prompt test from September, costs, and an API call.

The six models at a glance

ModelLabLengthResolution
Kling 3.0Kuaishou3-15 s720p, 1080p, 4K
Seedance 2.5ByteDance4-30 s480p-1080p

Wan 3.0Alibaba2-30 s480p-4K
Gemini OmniGoogle4-10 s720p, 1080p, 4K

What each one does best, with its starting price:

  • Kling 3.0, from $0.0963 per second: several shots from one prompt, dialogue with lip sync.
  • Seedance 2.5, from $0.261 per second: a 30-second scene in a single pass, up to 30 reference images, editing of existing video.
  • Veo 3.1, from $2.53 per video: picture quality, light and surface texture.
  • MiniMax H3, from $0.161 per second: stereo sound, references for face and voice.
  • Wan 3.0, from $0.0777 per second: long clips, and video built from a document or web page.
  • Gemini Omni, from $1.45 per video: a fresh take on a reference clip you supply.

Prices are "from": more resolution or audio costs more. Veo 3.1 and Gemini Omni charge per clip, the others per second. Detailed matchups: Kling 3.0 vs Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 vs Seedance 2.5, MiniMax H3 vs Seedance 2.5.

Matching the model to the shot

  • People in frame, several cuts, English lines: Kling 3.0.
  • A longer scene with a clear start and finish, or lots of reference material: Seedance 2.5.
  • One standout shot where quality matters most: Veo 3.1.
  • Characters who talk, with audio in the clip price: MiniMax H3. In a September test of Polish speech, MiniMax H3 Max pronounced every word correctly. That test ran outside Kadraris in a different setup, so do one trial clip before committing to a series.
  • 20 to 30 seconds, up to 4K, or a video made from a document: Wan 3.0.
  • Existing footage you want in a new style: Gemini Omni.

Translating Runway tools

What you will not find here: a timeline editor, shared team projects, or Runway's own models. You download the clips and edit them in whatever editor you already use.

Two prompts, four models: my September test

On September 27, 2026 I sent the same two English prompts to several video models. One: coffee being poured into a white cup. Two: a yellow and red Warsaw tram on a wet street at dusk. Each clip was 4 seconds, one attempt per model, no retries. The complete ranking, in Polish, is on my blog: AI video generator ranking. Here are the models you can use in Kadraris:

ModelCoffeeTramWhat I saw
Veo 3.1 Fast8.57.5top coffee shot; tram too quick
Wan 3.08.07.5best reflections; unrequested music
Seedance 2.0 Fast8.07.0clean push-in; tram cream, not yellow
Kling 3.07.06.5crisp 1080p; colors and dusk off
Coffee stream filling a white cup, steam rising through a band of sunlight, Veo 3.1 Fast
Test of Sept 27, 2026, Veo 3.1 Fast: pour, steam and level all right, 8.5/10
Daylight tram on a rain-soaked street, Kling 3.0
Test of Sept 27, 2026, Kling 3.0: believable tram, wrong color and no dusk, 6.5/10
Tram passing over glossy cobblestones, fixed camera, Seedance 2.0 Fast
Test of Sept 27, 2026, Seedance 2.0 Fast: static camera and wet stones right, colors wrong, 7.0/10

Two prompts point in a direction; they do not settle anything. What I took from it: state colors and time of day more than once in the prompt, and for vehicles add "static camera on a tripod". More phrasing of this kind: camera moves in AI video prompts.

Lab demos

The makers' own clips show the headline features. Kling 3.0 cuts between shots from a single prompt, and Seedance 2.5 produces a whole 30-second scene in one generation:

Vendor sample: ByteDance

Costs per clip

You top up from $10 and pay for each finished clip, with no subscription. Examples:

Seedance 2.5second5 × from $0.261 per second10 × from $0.261 per second

Clip-priced models:

  • Veo 3.1 Fast: from $0.354 per video per 8-second clip.
  • Veo 3.1 (Quality): from $2.53 per video per 8-second clip.
  • Gemini Omni: from $1.45 per video, varying with length.

Studio shows the exact figure for your resolution and audio choice before you click Generate, and the API returns it as estimated_cost. Whether a flat monthly fee or a per-clip balance works out cheaper depends on how much you produce. All per-second rates: AI video cost per second and the pricing page.

Generating from code

Rendering takes anywhere from under a minute to several minutes, so the API works with tasks: submit, then collect.

bash
curl https://kadraris.com/v1/generate \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $KADRARIS_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "model": "kling-3.0",
    "input": {
      "prompt": "Red and yellow tram rolling down a wet street at dusk, puddle reflections, umbrellas, static camera on a tripod",
      "duration": 5,
      "resolution": "1080p",
      "aspect_ratio": "16:9"
    },
    "webhook_url": "https://your-server.example/hooks/kadraris"
  }'

The 202 gives you the task id and estimated_cost. Then either poll GET https://kadraris.com/v1/tasks/{id} or wait for the signed webhook. Moving to Seedance 2.5 or Wan 3.0 means changing model and possibly resolution. Reference: generate docs, async video with webhooks, and a wider look at video APIs in AI video API comparison 2026.

About Runway, as of October 2026

Facts from Runway's pricing page and developer docs on October 2, 2026. Plans change often, so check runway.com before deciding.

  • Plans: Standard $15, Pro $35, Max $95 a month, or $12, $28 and $76 a month on annual billing. The free plan comes with 125 one-time credits.
  • Rollover: unused credits on Standard and Pro do not carry over; Max carries over up to one month.
  • Models: Gen-4.5 for video and Aleph for editing existing footage, plus some third-party models in the app, including Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.0.
  • Developer API: separate from app plans, paid with credits from the developer portal at $0.01 per credit.

Runway is a well-made production suite with projects, editing and post tools under one roof. If you work in it every day and use your credits each month, staying makes sense. Paying per clip tends to suit you better when:

  • Volume swings. Five shots in one month, eighty in the next. A balance without an expiry date copes with that.
  • You need one model's strength. A 30-second single-pass scene, native 4K, or dialogue with lip sync.
  • Everything bills in one place. Video, image, music and chat models share the balance.
  • You automate. One key for scripts, n8n and Make, with estimated_cost before each task.
  • Failures should be free. A failed task releases its hold completely.

Questions

Which of the six should I try first?

Start from the shot, not the brand. People and multi-shot scenes: Kling 3.0. A 30-second scene: Seedance 2.5. One 4K hero shot: Veo 3.1. Talking characters with sound included: MiniMax H3.

Can I keep using Runway for some work?

Yes. Nothing stops you from editing in Runway and generating specific shots elsewhere. Kadraris clips are ordinary video files you download.

Can I run Runway's own models in Kadraris?

No. Gen-4.5 and Aleph are not in the catalog. The models come from Kuaishou, ByteDance, Google, MiniMax and Alibaba.

How do I restyle footage I already shot?

Use Gemini Omni with your clip as the reference, or HappyHorse 1.0 for a restyle. Seedance 2.5 can edit and extend existing video, and Kling 3.0 Motion Control copies the motion from your footage onto a character image.
